Bronzes

In comparison to her aluminum work, Louise’s bronzes had a very different feel. The figurative sculptures, such as Figure I, II & III, are much more grounded, even visceral. As Louise stated, “My work is classical in method, and contemporary in its political and social inquiry”. Louise also began to create work with a more historical emphasis, as with the Postcard series in 2004. These qualities were uniquely combined in her ongoing Romans & Etruscans series 2000-2010. Throughout these works, there is a sense of respect, even homage to either the historical events, specific person, or female form being depicted in the work.
